Matti the Composer Returns
By Matthew C. Scheck | January 28, 2010
In 1983 I decided I wanted to become a composer/arranger/producer even though I wasn’t a musician and I knew nothing about music. I bought some synthesizers and all kinds of other electronic thingamajigs and started out learning how it all worked. Right away I started making recordings of the music I was making, often collaborating with my friends who were real musicians but not songwriters like I aspired to be, and I learned, early on, I was not half bad at songwriting and producing. I made hours upon hours of these “Basement” tapes as we called them. And then after a few years I sold all the equipment, quit making music, and concentrated on writing. I don’t even remember why I quit. C’est la vie.
So fast forward to now. Recently I bought an Apple MacBook Pro, and right away I loved noodling around with GarageBand, which is a combination home recording studio and music and sound sample library, designed and so that anyone can make good music quickly and easily. I loved it so much I got a copy of the more advance Apple Pro Logic 9, which is for professional producers and sound engineers.
So after about 25 years I’m making music again. Submitted are a few of the songs I wrote early on while experimenting with GarageBand and Logic Pro.

If Chuck D, Professor Frink from The Simpsons, and Liberace had a love child they would name it Mat (somehwere out there is a graphic artist capable of making a computer-generated likeness of this kid).
